Firefighter Training

HOME

Good firefighter training is one of the most important tools a firefighter has.  Improper or inadequate firefighter training places the firefighter in jeopardy each time he or she is on the fire ground.

Professional firefighters generally have to complete their training before they can begin work with their departments.  Most volunteer fire departments however, are allowed to place their volunteer firefighters in service with a minimum of training.  In Arkansas Intro to Firefighting, Personal Protection Equipment, and Wildland Fire Training meet the minimum requirements to begin responding to fires and be covered by workmen's comp insurance.

Most departments have training officers in their fire departments who are trained and certified to do "in house" training.  Most areas have volunteer instructors who are certified by their state fire training academies, or paid instructors that teach classes in areas to remote to the campus, or some firefighters prefer to attend the on campus classes.  There are also opportunities for online firefighter training.  Who ever does the training it is of utmost importance that each member of the department receive the best possible firefighter training available.
